Kenny graduated with an HND Biology from Dundee College of Technology (now Abertay University) in 1980. He started working at the University of Dundee in 1980 as a technician working up to a senior research technician by 1990. His initial work involved purification and enzymic studies on RuBisCo from cyanobacteria. He then moved into working with cyanobacterial toxins which involved purification, analysis, characterisation and effects of these toxins. Extensively using HPLC and SPE techniques in this work. He successfully submitted an MSc thesis in 1993 entitled ‘Incidence and significance of toxic cyanobacteria and preliminary studies on removal of their toxins’. Kenny joined the FingerPrints Proteomics Facility in April 2001.
